Reanimating the Dead, 2008, Performance
(Documentation by Jerry Truong)
Essential themes in Lavatelli's work have been formalist deconstructions of cinema that glean a feminist perspective on the role of the starlette and femme fatale. In an effort to move beyond female bodies into something to capture the essence of cinema she moves toward the uncanny. Proposing that cinema is a mother of zombies as it re-animates the dead, Lavatelli creates a performance where in she directs a film shoot with various formats used to capture both Affection-Images, that being the re-animation process in close up, and Action-Images, that being the famous zombie walk which staggers our time/space perceptions.
